Auction - Inc Machinery
Hi,
For those who live in the southern suburbs of Melbourne, I thought this maybe of interest to you.
http://www.mjbentauctioneers.com.au/...ong280607.html
I contacted both Air Liquide & BOC gases last week about buying gas cylinders off other people and they both said it was illegal - you can only hire gas cylinders I was told by both - is that true or false?
If it is not then are there any other companies one can buy them from?
Cheers
MH

No it is not illegal, the companies want to keep their monopolies, some years ago a mate of mine showed me the income they make from rental I was amazed, it was in the hundreds of thousands. They claim it is a safety issue, well they have no such safety issues in the US.The way things are going the home user will be priced out of the loop in this country.

Rubbish. The rental is only $100-120 p.a. There are plenty of other things that I spend way more on each year without even blinking.
Also, if someone as huge as BOC is only making hundreds of thousands on container rental then they clearly aren't in it for the money. There must be sweet FA actual margin in the rental. Hence their charge must in someway resemble their costs.

Going thru the list there, it says it's for the welding equipment, not the actual bottles. The bottles pictured have the Supagas logo on them which means they are owned by Supagas.
The auctioneers wouldn't know about this, so would be auctioning them off as a complete unit, if I was bidding and won I would leave the bottles behind as they would be useless to me.Cheers

Per Bottle. Thats $240 per year for oxy-acet, another 120 for argon for a mig...... and so it goes.
If you bought the auction lot, take the bottles. Use them till they are empty! Your not paying the rent.
I've "heard" that it is possible to "find" some oxy-acet bottles (the local tip even), hire some new ones, return the found ones and not pay rent!
Of course BOC/Air Liquide will tell you it's not possible, because that way they'd miss out on their rent.
