Shabbily Ew. A hex key in the tool post cap screw. A handle is next on the list then a centring device. It's next to useless without the later.

Hi Bob,
Very nice work, I like the adjustable tool post that should give you lots of options for tool bits. When you look at the handle position, I found I needed to fit it on an angle for a comfortable position and to keep away from the chuck when you rotate it as you are always working close to the chuck, have a look at the pictures of my one. I am sure you will have this in mind. I had a friend build one and he did not think about it and had to relocate his handle. You are right about the need for a center locating indicator.

Figured you'd struggle with my "working" drawing. I did lash out and use a ruler when I worked out the dimensions of the post. That drawing is transparent with oil.

Is the tapered spigot a bit loose in your Cross Slide or does yours have a smaller bore than 1.375"?

Peter,
The bore is standard. The spigot is 1.373" in diameter. A loose fit. No idea why I scribbled down 34.4. Advanced years maybe.

Where's the plane?
BT, your posts and snaps are first class. Have you abandoned the cast iron plane you were making?
Is it sitting in the corner under the dog's bed, rusting away, would be a shame?
How about an update?

No abandonment Ken. The purpose of the ball turner is to turn the banjo that holds the pretend plane's cap iron screw captive. The original had nicely curved sides. Naturally enough , no one would ever see it but who cares. Here is a beautiful 50 G Norris, my all time favourite. The banjo is visible below the pivoting boss.

Bob if you need a pattern I will be happy to drop off my 51 Norris which has the same adjuster. Might be handy for dimensions?

Sounds like a neat idea Gregory. When are you next in this neck of the woods?
