Bandsaw questions- and identify my old bandsaw?
G'day all; a recent post with some bandsaw setup questions reminded me of something I've been meaning to look at on my saw; I run a bimetal variable-pitch blade- if memory serves, it is 10-14tpi. It has lost a few teeth in one spot. I'm wondering if it is worth taking it to a saw place and getting the blade cut & shortened to get rid of the damaged area, the blade cost about $85 and is not very old. I've read that the next tooth in line will break off so the damaged area keeps getting longer. Has anyone had success with a cut & shut, and is the saw place likely to charge more than is worth my while? The blade is 19mm wide, 3485mm long and the damaged section is about 20mm at this stage.

The other question is, can anyone identify the make of this saw? It seems to be a copy of a Wells #8, with an Australian GE motor and 3/4" blade. I'm wondering if it might be Macson as they made other stuff under license- like my shaper which is a copy of an Alba. I bought the saw at a clearing sale a few years ago and a lot of the items there had been slathered with the same ugly green paint. There's an oval-shaped makers badge that looks like it originally had a background of white enamel but there's no logo on it now.
I've rewired the saw, it had no switchgear at all when I bought it and the guy was switching it on & off at the wall. I still need to add a cutoff switch, as in end-of-cut, and I have plans of adding a coolant system and tray but it's a handy bit of kit with a good capacity.
