    Default Bi-Metal blades

Could anyone please advise me where I can buy Bi-Metal bandsaw blades for a Hafco BS-5S in Sydney/ Newcastle area.
Which kind and TPI would be best to cut 303 stainless from 25mm upto 75mm round solid. Thankyou, Retromill.

    G'day.
Ummmm..... Why not ask Hare & Forbes?
Afterall. Hafco is their brand. They should know what blades fit it.
    Hooroo.

Hafco dont supply a Bi-Metal blade for this saw only the bigger saws.
They did tell me that some companies do make bi-Metal blades for it but could not say who.

Henry Bros at Vineyard have a really good reputation for service and info.
Ph: 9627 5486 They definitely do all sorts of wood bandsaw blades, and I *think* they do metal cutting as well.

When I worked at an engineering shop, I'd take the ute to Australian Bandsaw Company, 16 Prime Dr Seven Hills, to pick up metal-cutting bandsaw blades. They'd also be worth a try.

    Cheers,
    Andrew

I buy them in Hobart for $30 each for bimetal. My bandsaw is the equivalent to the BS-5 which may have a shorter blade (I don't know for sure). The guy I get them from just has a big roll of the stuff and simply cuts and welds to length.

    Default Bi metal blade sources

It may be cost effective to buy an entire 100ft ( 30metres) cassette of bandsaw blade. We do so at school for 10mm x 7tpi blade and it works out at a bit over $3 per metre. If you got LPG or oxy and some blue tip s/silver solder , some flux and a jig, you can custom make your own blades. I have done 25 or so blades for the man arts section at school.
The information to do so has been discussed on the very forum and is available to search.

The secrets for joining the blades are in
Removing the cast in the saw blade ( set by the storage roll )
Removing the tooth set around the joint
    Bevel edging the mating faces
Scarfing the joint - say 30 degrees

It is the top first two that gave me curry in the beginning. When starting I used to wonder what caused the banging as the joint traveled through the saw blade guides. Removing the hump out of the matching blades edges allows a perfectly flat fit up as does flattening the set for around 10mm on either side of the butt joint. I use my finger tips to “feel” flat and aligned edges. For bi metal edges I would just lightly gring the set flat. It is only effecting less than 1% of the cut edges.
