    Oldhack,

I have a smaller bike lift which going by your picture would the front half of that picture. I can put up photos of that and then you can see how the mechanism works as the second half would be a cinch after that.

    cheers

    Here you go Oldhack:

    http://www.afabonline.com/cycle.htm

I looked into this a few years ago but decided not to go through with it. At the time, the cost of materials made it uneconomical to build, with the cheap Chinese lifts available these days. I got mine for $500, but they are a little dearer these days.
If you already had most of the material and have spare time, go for it. It certainly will be a very satisfying project.
Watch out, your mates will want you to make them one too!!

thanx for the link, will sent them an email and see what the plans are worth $AUD.

most of the one available to buy are around $350-400, but some of them dont look that strong, the one in the photo is made of 50x50x4 angle and 50x50x6 RHS which sound a bit of overkill to me ?

There are two different sized lifts being sold here. The cheaper lifts are too short for road bikes. They are designed for trail bikes.

Those stock sizes do sound a little excessive...obviously so it can handle Road Kings, etc.

I was thinking of putting the design on a diet, but not to sure how light to go ?. was thinking some thing like 30x30x3 RHS and 30x30x3 angle ?

my bike is a featherwieght (250kg) compared to some of the big road bikes.

I have one of the Chinese items, which was too short for my R6. I used the removeable ramp to extend the work area.
However, as Sterob refers to his bike as "featherweight" at 250kg, we may be working off different pages!

    Oldhack,
Do you want to build a table of or a lift? I was under the impression it was a table you wanted.
Anyway, here's a pic of a similar table to mine although this is is air lift, mine uses leg power.

I've had a design in my head for a couple of years for a bike lift , not a flat top table like the picture ,but one that the bike can go into forward or back ward and has a wheel clamp .
The back end of the lift can drop away so you can remove either the front or rear wheel ,depending which way its put into the lift.
It can be adjust to any height that is required
I have some drawings of it of it on paper , but haven't thought about it for quite a while.
I have made some parts for it but came to a halt as I needed a lathe to make bushes for it.
I have a lathe now , but have higher priority jobs to complete .

I have been able to get plans for a lifter that looks very similiar to the one in your pic, but it designed to lift heavy bikes.

Base is made of 50mm angle and supports are 50mm RHS, which is way to heavy and way expensive.

Looking to put the whole thing on a diet.

the uprights in your pic look to be only about 30mmRHS ?

hoping to get stuck into it soon, If I can get bloody time
