Hi Pete, re oilers. Their prices are even a bit higher than H&F who charge $ 4.40 each but seem to have only the 6mm variety. I'm set though as Ueee has graciously promised me some. H

Hi Ueee, did you get that Copy & paste job I did to work?? At least one of my million
attempts must have broken through the forums razor wire fence because you saw the
diamond tool holder?? And yes, although quite hairy pricewise, it's a tool I use almost
exclusively. That chip shield came actually from some gadget you attach to the rear screen
of your car to make parking easier. I attach at to the boltholes for the traveling steady and it saves a lot of clean-up time. It also acts as a carriage stop as it hits the head
stock housing at the right time. H

BL 200D Lathe
Hi Evan, with the help of my niece who is here on holiday and has a very much younger brain than that thing I have posing as a brain, we managed to get a few pictures onto the forum.
The first is of the label on te headstock displaying the 'Mystery Mectec' brand. I've spend
quite a few hours to find this company but so far without success. Hopefully one of the
forumites who reads this can shed a bit of light on it.

G'day Stuart, you are a bit early with the "success" congrats. It was only half of the post
that somehow even managed to slip through my young offsiders fingers. Anyway, here is the rest. 1. an expanded view of the business section. 2. The diamond tool holder and
my "patented" chip catcher that Ueee commented on. 3. Unfortunately I am pressed for space and since speed changes involves opening the gear cover, (impossible with the
lathe in position) I mounted the whole shebang on a 1/4" Aluminium and 1/2" Plywood
sheet for stability and some wheels underneath to enable me to pull the lathe out for
gear changes.- Needless to say, because of the mucking around doing it, gear changes are becoming a bit less frequent.
I mentioned in an earlier post that I would like to convert the machine to variable drive.
If anyone in the forum has done a similar thing, I would love to hear from them. Any advice
on the matter would be greatly appreciated. And lastly there is a pic of my modified
Tailstock clamping mechanism. I threw the old nut and spanner out and made myself that cheap little clamp. That about sums it up for today. Cheers H

Hi H,
At the bottom right of your posts there is an edit button(for 24 hours) you can go back and fix things if you left something out. (I normally add a note as to why if I dont edit straight away)
Would cutting the side door in half so you can open the top half help?
Do you know how big the motor is?
Likely a 1/2hp 3 phase motor with a VSD would be the way to go. depending... $200ish

This is the method I use but I there are others as well obviously. Due to my limited internet capacity I prefer to use the thumbnail method and leave the decisions to the readers whether to look at the full size pics.
I wonder about the posts where both the full picture and the thumbnail is shown. This strikes me as pointless and wasteful of internet capacity.
What sizes of files do forumites think are acceptable?
Bin555. You have succeeded and now there will be no stopping you. As Log suggested, make use of the "Preview Post" button. It can sometimes save embarrassment.
I have started reading the FAQ section again and also looking around the web site a bit more as I have realised I am ignorant about a lot of things. I have just relied on what worked first.

Hi Dean,
The reason that some forumites put both big pics and thumbnails in is because most of us seem to prefer seeing the pics in the post, and the thumbnails are there in case the link to the larger pics goes missing (like a photobucket account gets closed) and there will be no pics. I have seen this on older PM posts and it is very annoying.
Even the "big" pics that i use in my posts range from 100 to 300k this is at 1920x1080. I think these pics are a good size but not so big as to be too slow for those on dial-up or wireless internet.1915 17"x50" LeBlond heavy duty Lathe, 24" Queen city shaper, 1970's G Vernier FV.3.TO Universal Mill, 1958 Blohm HFS 6 surface grinder, 1942 Rivett 715 Lathe, 14"x40" Antrac Lathe, Startrite H225 Bandsaw, 1949 Hercus Camelback Drill press, 1947 Holbrook C10 Lathe.

The only problem I have with pictures in the posts and not thmubnailed
1. I forget to turn pictures off when I am using my phone and currently it costs me $2 a meg!!!!!!! shhhhh yes I know lol
2. it makes it harder for me to mess with the pictures if I want a really good look at them........
I'll live
Having the same picture full size and as a thumbnail isnt going to use up much bandwidth. This picture is 118kb
https://www.woodworkforums.com/attach...d-test-###.jpg
its thumbnail is 6.25kb

1. Life is indeed hard! I feel for you. LOL. I don't have a "Smart Phone" and no intentions of changing. My phone screen is way too small for serious browsing. I have no mobile access at home so the mobile scene is of less importance to me than most.
2. Are you refering to messing with the pictures, as in scrolling on the phone as well? Just get an iPad. I find thumbnails easier to mess with as I can look at the full size image in another tab at the same time as reading the post, and I don't tend to do the wrong thing and loose position as the picture is the only thing on the tab. I guess it is a bit different on a phone.

I also find it really annoying when pictures are not available. I have found this on other forums generally. Some forums don't allow storage of pictures. I guess WWF used to be like this. Some forums I have visited have given links to image hosting sites that need registration to access. Some forums require membership for access to pictures. I am usually trying to find the answer to a problem and don't want to join just to find its not the answer anyway. There is a limit to how many forums one can make use of.
Until recently I was limited to 1G down/up load per month during peak times. This was the only choice available. Six pictures of 300kb in one post adds up when it is repeated. Now thanks to the NBN god I have 4G at any time of day. Eventually I am guaranteed access to equivalent speeds and limits as city users get. This according to what I have read is about three fifths of stuff all. Sigh.

Your not alone, I have been here for a few years now and don't know half the things here, LOL

Edit
Be careful of joining the Hobby Machinist forum run by Nelson, it states in the rules he wants your full real name location etc, and will also check up on your IP address to see if you are who you say you are, talk about paranoid.
No other forum I know of is like this, some want a real email address, but that is pretty fair in my opinion.

I am a member of most, and a lot don't even care if you post. In that Hobby machinist, he states he sends out emails to you ever month if you don't post, and after 2 the 3rd one he bans you and your IP address, thats it.no warnings
I was banned a while back after being there since it started with 200 odd posts, for reasons unknown to me or him. I think it was because I posted on another forum and not his.
Some of the guys (including the mod) who where banned for unknown reasons like me opened there own forum up, it has only been opened a few moths so it hasn't picked up as yet, but Ed the owner is a great guy and is in no way like Nelson with his rules etc.

Thanks again. I will have a look at it. I started on newsgroups many years ago. Very quickly gave up. I saw some posts recently on a US forum which a well known forumite from the other side of Oz was involved in. One who has occasion to delete posts lol. I was pleased to see a moderater make a statement about gentlemanly behaviour. No accusations by the way. Just a comment that this is what I love about WWF. The usually gentlemanly behaviour.
