Blacksmithing event- SE Qld
Hello,
I thought I'd bring an event to the attention of those in SE Qld/NE NSW.
Its the annual Blacksmiths Magic Festival, which is moving from Highfields, just north (still on the highway), to Cabarlah.
Its on 6th and 7th of December, which doesn't give much notice, sorry! The guy running it has recently sold up his smithy and now takes it on the road to schools around the state, so I assume he'll have his mobile setup at the event.
Details can be found here
Maybe I'll catch up with some of you there!Andy Mac

Thanks Andy,
Will try to get there. I have made other commitments but I would hate to miss this event.

I would have loved to go, and catch up, but helping cleaning up at the Gap has used up any free time I had before Xmas

Well I just got back from a very rushed time at the event. No photos sorry.
Couldn't get there at all yesterday due to trenching and pipe laying at home in the mud, but snuck up there today. Met up with Derekh who was wearing a forum t-shirt (I had my cap on), so we chin wagged away an hour or so. While I was sitting there I got roped into the mystery bag competition, where pairs of smiths are selected and given a random package of odd steel. One hour later and with a double wall mounted hook/hat rack we came away with second prize! Two times now.
Apparently the event will be on again next year but ealrier, like July. That'll be a relief, it was pretty sweaty in the tent by the forge!

Hi and thanks Andy, I had a good day. It was definitely warm in that marquee with 6 forges cranked up. Unfortunately the bar wasn't operational because there were a few thirsty men after each of those events.
It was also great for you to show me around your workshop and see the tools you have collected or made over the years. For the sake of otheres here, Andy has made many of his tools including a lovely little drawknife, carving knife and a plane whose origins were an old fence post.
Pls keep us informed of the next event. I know my 'smithy friends are keen to attend but couldn't make it this time.
Thanks again.
cheers
Derek

Thanks for the update Andy. Unfortunately I didn't get there. Will have to plan to get there next year.
