Blueing Blacking and Browning Formula Available
All,
A few expressed interest in cold blueing, hot blueing, phosphating, Blacking and Browning Formulae.
I have finally got around to scanning Roy Dunlap's old Gunsmithing recipes and they are in a 30meg PDF file.
If you would like to email me direct I will email it direct to you - this way I don't have to try and find somewhere that wants to host a 30meg PDF.
Please make sure you have the ability to receive 30 meg files via email as it p155's me off when my 30meg file bounces back at me.
If someone wants to host it for downloads then email me an uplink location.
Hmmmm seems my own server crashes trying to send out 30meg files. I will have to try and shrink it somewhat.
Cheers
Craig

Is it copyrighted material?
Cliff.
If you find a post of mine that is missing a pic that you'd like to see, let me know & I'll see if I can find a copy.

I would be happy to host your pdf about bluing and blacking etc provided it does not infringe copyrights etc.
I have setup up a free downloads page on my website and I expect this would be the appropriate page for it. But it is easy enough to set up any sort of webpage you wish, its up to you

To save any probs with Copyright if people are interested just email me. I have managed to shrink it sufficiently to send it and it is also quite readable this end.

Must have had ESP cos I was just thinking it would be good to make the metal on my tea pot handles black. For a new design I am working on. Anyone have this file?

Silly bugga, everybody knows that you use a can of spray paint, not a file.

Do a forum search on parkerizing -

Blueing is done by a hot caustic solution...have a read of some american gun forums, there should be plenty of info on them!

Oh! Thanks. I just don't know the proper names for things.
What about the finish being OK around food? Not that a tea pot handle is in contact with food, and the metal bit not even really in contact with hands much as the grip part will be wood.anne-maria.

As i recall one old method uses time, a wire brush and horse urine......just what you want on a tea pot....
