    Thanks gents. I haven't started making the parts yet. They are shown below. I will set the taper on a piece of scrap before launching into the parts. Tapping with a soft hammer is how I true up my lathe milling attachment- it works a treat.

    A dial indicator set up to see how much the top slide moves is also handy when you get to fine tuning the angle.

    Hi Chris, yep, you got it right, that's what I was saying, layout blue won't transfer like bearing blue does, it might give you an idea of the fit by rubbing off the layout blue from the high spots, but it's not the same thing.
    The same thing with texta, it will show the high spots but it won't transfer.

    If you are in desperate need, there is always the old standard of lamp-black, I watched a video recently of Holland & Holland making double rifles and shotguns, all the metal parts were fitted using lamp black.
