    Default BOC Smootharc 200C + MagMate 200

    Hi all

anyone had any experience with a boc smootharc 200c mig:

BOC - Smootharc Advance MIG 200C

I'm looking at the above welder, as well as a MagMate 200 which is also distributed by BOC:

BOC - Magmate 200P - Magmate Range - Welding Machines

    any thoughts / experiences?

    G/day XT4V,
I have the 200 C and I love it, bought it about 8 or 9 mths ago to replace an CIG 200, welds nice, but what I like most about it is that there is no mucking around, I use mostly .9 wire in it and you can be welding thin stuff, say 1.2mm and with the twist of one knob you be welding 16mm plate, that one knob adjusts the amperage and automatically adjusts the wire feed, no mucking around and anybody could use it, except my missus coz she aint aloud in the shed.
I use it at least once a day and often for a few hours a day.

A mate of mine has the Magmate 250 and as far as I know he has had no problems except he hasn't got enough power in his shed to use it to it's full potential, but he does use it with hard facing wire to build up the edges on his earth moving equipment, so it does get hammering at times. He has had it for maybe 3yrs.

I've had a similar Magmate 250 for about 5 years; it has been reliable and low maintenance. I have only used about 2.5 spools of wire, and have never tripped it on duty cycle. I am not a welder and find the controls quite uncertain, but it is generally so long between projects I always trial various settings and positions till I am sure I can trust the joint.
