Boring lathe spindle
I finally got around to finding out why 38mm bar wont go through my 38mm spindle.
I've had the top off the gear box. These screws/pins cant be seen, they are under a fix gear. they are about 250mm from the chuck end and about 180mm from the other end.
Ideas on how to get rid of them?
Thanks
Stuart

What is the problem?
Have you got something protruding into the headstock spindle?

Seeing that they are in an area of the spindle which is not finished machined you have a few options to be able to use to remove them.
1, would be to use a 1/2 round file.
2, a flap wheel on an extension shaft.
3,make up a long boring bar and machine them.
4, my preffered option use a rotary bur on an extension shaft either in a die grinder or electric drill .

I just opened the headstock to take some pictures. Measured it up again. I'd screwed up some how and was looking at the wrong gear. Its the screws that hold the key in for the gear that does the powerfeed FWD/Neutral/REV. Easy fix as I can get to them both. Which of course makes sense, I had been thinking "why would you screw a key in on a gear that doesn't move". I guess the moral yet again is when I think someone has screwed up I best check again that's it's not me. Still if they had used screws the right length I wouldn't have been looking.
Sorry for the trouble PC
