Bought the Sieg C6 Lathe from Hare & Forbes

Hi All,

A while back I started a thread asking what lathe to buy between the AL-50 and the Sieg C6

As I'd had the AL-50 previously and sold it and someone said that you may as well try the different lathe ... I did.

Last Friday my wife and I hired a flat bed ute and made the 10 hour return journey up the coast the Hare and Forbes at Northmead in Sydney. What an Aladdin's Cave!!! I'd had everything put away for me on the Thurday, so it didn't take that long (I ended up buying yet heaps more tooling) then we went around to the pick up area and a short while later a Sieg C6 lathe, mini mill and a ton of tooling was forklifted onto the back of the ute and tied down.

Waiting at home was two sons and two of their muscled mates and in short order they had everything off and in place in my shed for me.

I've had fun cleaning everything off and sorting everything out.

I've just come to the installation of the QA-100 Quick Change Tool post that I bought. H&F said it would fit straight on....this thing isn't going on without a LOT of machining.

Has anyone else bought the QA-100 Quick Change Tool post and did you have to do a lot to fit it?

Congratulations on your purchases. Whilst I do not currently own a lathe, I have not looked back since I purchased a milling machine (RF45/HM46). I seem to use it on nearly every job I have done over the last year. I am sure you will be the same with your new machines. Start making chips!

There are a few forum members that have the AL-60 or C6 lathe and there is quite a bit of info about these lathes on this forum.

If you do a search via Google

C6 site:woodworkforums.com

you will find quite a bit of info.

Thanks Fred for those links.

I was a little nervous buying the lathe. The AL 50 that I bought back in 2006, the amount of information and websites for mods and hints was unbelievable. It's a little more thin on the ground for the AL 60

Hi Jim,

hope you read this. The quick change tool post produced by Sieg for the C6 IS available in Victoria at present. I've just bought 2, plus extra tool holders, giving me 11 holders in total. NO machining.

The site is now web based - ausee.com.au. The GM is Steven Tao and I highly recommend him for service. He has just started a new business importing Sieg stuff. Much of Steven's machinery/tools is/are NOT available anywhere else in Oz. He makes off-catalogue orders for me direct from China. Have a look at his site and obtain a catalogue.

hi Jim,

that's a hell of a surname; Ferrous = iron/steel. My response is probably too late for you, but there is a new web-based company specialising in Sieg stuff, and they have imported the "proper" QCTP for the C6 lathe. The company specialises in mail order/web order business - is very reliable. MD is Steven Tao, of Ausee.com.au.

Have a look at his catalog on the web site. He'll bring in many off-catalog items if you wish. The new C8 and C10 series lathes are really worth a look. Interesting gearing though.
