Uses for brass strip??
Being a member of HA (Hoarders Anonymous), I don't like throwing things out if I think they can be useful someday... even if not for myself. I'd prefer give it to someone who needs it rather than throw it out.
So, over the Easter weekend I've been fabricating my long awaited steel rack and have finally been able to get all my RHS off the floor, and in clearing up I found a heap of brass strip that I had kept from a vacant house clear-up I did for a client. I figured it had to be worth something for scrap metal recycling, but if anyone knows of a use for it, or has a use for it, please let me know. You'd be most welcome to it. If not, it goes to scrap metal dealer for cash...
... one day.
Cheers,

What dimensions? - Brass and wood combined in hand tools is the first use that I think?

Yonee check out Bob's tools using brass https://www.woodworkforums.com/showth...916#post706916

Most of them are strips around a mm thick, between 12.5 and 20mm wide and around 500-600mm long, and there's about 20-30 of them.
I love Bob's tools, a little out of league at the moment but I'll give anything a go, just got to finish up a few other projects first.
All I can think of at the moment is using the brass as trimming on some future timber projects, maybe a clock or three...
...it's got me thinking though, my FIL works as a coffin maker and can get me some offcuts from a variety of timbers...Too many projects, so little time, even less money! Are you a registered member? Actually the brass strip is handy for using in the lathe to stop damaging machined surfaces when you chuck it up.
I could use a couple of strips myself but probably too hard to get some up here.Cheers

I've been wanting to make some extra long door catch plates - like this, but about 150mm long. It's a long story, but everytime it rains I have to refit the door lock on the loo door!
So, I'll buy some off you if you're willing.Cheers, Richard

Hmm... that would be a bit thin wouldn't it. I wonder how thick they usually are?
