I have an original 1920 Brown and Sharpe catalogue and a copy a 1919 Cincinnati catalogue and they both feature universal mills but the mill tables rotate only on the X axis. Maybe the later Omniversal was B and S's answer to the flexibility of the European mills. Unlike those mills, the Omniversal table does rotate on the X axis.
Sadly, I have never seen even a photograph of an Omniversal. There have been discussions about these rarely encountered beauties on PM but unfortunately no pictures.

Do they have machine shops in jail?
Strangely enough you can buy a horizontal attachment for a vertical mill. I wonder if they could be adapted? Miscellaneous Milling Accessories (scroll down)

Hey Bob,
No I dont have another machine but I have noticed that for less than the price of what a vertical head would cost I could buy myself an X2 or something for the smaller jobs. This might be the go actually.

He Brendan,
The round column mills are on special and go on special fairly often for around $1,400.

They are not a bad mill and would be a lot more rigid than a X2. I think after using your large mill the X2 would get you frustrated.
I have been thinking of one myself to use as a drill.

Cheers Dave,
Those sorts of mills were the exact sort I was looking at initially when I ended up buying the big one. If I ever have to get rid of mine I think thats the sort of thing I would get to replace it. I love those knee mills that all you blokes have but I dont think id be able to rustle up that sort of cash.
