Default Another Brochure - This time a Brown and Sharpe No.2 Universal Mill

No date. I imagine 1940's. I would have one of these.

    HI BT,
I happen to have in my shed what looks like the horizontal arbor support support. The thing that clamps between the Y dovetail and the horizontal arbor support. It came with my shaper. I guess other mills had them as well.

    Cheers Bob,

It appears quite similar to my mill in a lot of ways and some of the info here will be handy as I plan on giving mine a bit of attention. I am mainly interested in ensuring the lubrication system is working correctly and fixing a few leaks - in particular I want to see if mine has a filter in it because no doubt after 70 odd years theres a fair chance it will need a clean!

    Hey Brendan,

How about a few snaphots of your mill.

    Bob .

There are some pics and a few shots on page two of this thread, along with a bit of its history which I am very fortunate in being able to have tracked down.

    https://www.woodworkforums.com/f65/ne...75/index2.html

I use it a lot and want to give it some TLC to ensure it keeps on trucking. Im not sure how powerful it is but it can move metal fast with a sharp cutter.

You're going to have to stop this Bob. I'm coming over all amorous for American Iron. And the budget can't stand another acquisition! (Not that there's much of it about.)

That behemoth is serious Brendan. Yes, I can see it removing a lot of metal rapidly.

Well I guess there's 0 prospect of a No 0 Omniversal turning up on fleabay, so maybe it's safe to read about it. Fire at will!

Ha ha,yeah Bob it is a bit of a behemoth! I have/want to move it to the back of the shed where it will be less of an impost on floor space and this will be quite an ordeal.

Id murder a man for a vertical head for it. As much as I love it I dont like working in the horizontal plane on small jobs (like tool holders for my lathe).

It has come in serious handy for my motorbike build though for doing tube notching at various compound angles.

I just happen to own a Brown and Sharpe 2A Universal Milling Machine fully optioned from the factory with vertical and horizontal heads etc etc.
So what I'm getting at is thanks for the manual as I did not have one...

We can all sympathize with you for being headless Brendan. I'd be stumped if I could ony use the horizontal spindle on my machine.

Chances of you finding one are most probably as good as Bryan chancing upon an Omniversal.

    Do you have another mill?
