    Default Brown vinegar and brass

It is a old trick, but it still works

To remove the dull tarnish from brass and copper, soak the item is a container of brown vinegar , less than $2 for two litres , cheaper than petrol.

And if you want to add it back..

a dash of ammonia in the bottom of a container, suspend whatever so that it does not touch the sides or the ammonia and screw the lid on. leave until it is the brown tarnish you want...
