If you can fit it, keep your eye out for a 300 x 900mm lathe second hand. It is something that lasts most guys a life time, instead of stepping up when you grow out of the smaller ones and have the advantage of power feeds on both axis's.
Also in the end it will save some a lot of money in not only stepping up to something larger with more features, but the tooling change over as well.

Are you really serious about sending somebody to Carbatec for that lathe, when the same thing, is being sold at Hare and Forbes for about 400 smackers cheaper ?
Both these merchants, are only re-selling a Seig lathe made in China, so why so much dearer with one mob than the other, real easy answer, Carbatec are RIPPING you off.
Check around ALL the different places for a chinese lathe and pick the absolute cheapest you can find, this will now allow you to buy quite a bit of tooling for the lathe, it aint rocket science, now is it.

I do think it's about time that a lot of persons on here, should really check out this site, and take in what is in there.
Now have a real good look at any one of these machines and then imagine them in any other colour, other than red, and with different brand names just stuck on them as well.
Bingo, all from the same factory/factories in China, and ALL made to the same drawings.
Better believe it, eh.

Well Mr Trapp, perhaps you would like to put up a link to the Sieg C4 that Hare and Forbes sells?
I am aware that H&F sells the C6 as their AL60, but I have never seen the C4 there, but perhaps you can point it out on their website?
Apart from that, I wasn't trying to find the cheapest deal for artme, merely pointing out the alternatives that are around in lathes of that size.
As to why one merchant charges more than another, that is a totally different subject and could make a thread all its' own, perhaps you should start one?

Mark,
I am not sure if it's just the way the message came across, but it really came across in a condescending attitude sort of way to members here.
We are all a friendly bunch of guys here, and when someone comes along we help out as much as we can. Not everyone is up on internet or forums and who knows this maybe there first forum that they have asked a question on, so we don't want to be chasing them away with replies that come across like you have done above.

Like Bigshed, i can't find the C4 on the H&F site. Also, depending on the importer, the machines could be finished off to a better/cheaper standard.
Back to Artme's problem, i would highly suggest (like i'm sure someone else did in this thread but now i can't find the post) you look at a slightly larger 2nd hand machine. My experience with my HM50 has put me off H&F machines for life......1915 17"x50" LeBlond heavy duty Lathe, 24" Queen city shaper, 1970's G Vernier FV.3.TO Universal Mill, 1958 Blohm HFS 6 surface grinder, 1942 Rivett 715 Lathe, 14"x40" Antrac Lathe, Startrite H225 Bandsaw, 1949 Hercus Camelback Drill press, 1947 Holbrook C10 Lathe.
