you could try paper-making suppliers. Handmade paper is made by scooping up a load of paper slurry in a 'deckle' which is a timber frame with a fine mesh stretched over it. The mesh can be brass, bronze or nylon. Sorry I can't give you any contacts.

Hello Mike, I have some very fine brass gauze of the size you need - you are welcome to it. It is fine enough to pass fuel but not water. Regards, Daryl

The gauze from an old flyscreen doors were a woven copper strand. I still have some in fitted a screen door, so the dog as a puppy didn't destroy it.
I am pretty sure one can still get it,if that's a help, or does it have to be brass ?

edit : 42 AWG wire is 0025" diameter . Sounds good .
