carbide inserts
Another question from an apprentice
are these inserts any good..... TPG Carbide Inserts
what is the real difference between C2 - C5 and the coated stuff as far as an apprentice is concerned....would C5 coated actually give a better finish and or increased wear capabilitiesLast edited by eskimo; 11th June 2010 at 05:20 PM. Reason: spelling

Eskimo,
The inserts codes between different manufactures vary but essentially follow the same ANSI/ISO markings.......you can get a comparison at this site Insert Designation Chart - provides ANSI and ISO designation code definitions for carbide insert shapes, relief angles, tolerances, chipbreaker codes, hole types, size values, thickness values, radius values, wiper lead angle, wiper clearance angle,
but sure there are many others....different coating and angle are better suited to some materials than others......well worth researching first as well as the material you intend to cut as to what tips are suitable......the better quality brands last longer IMHO so expect to fork out about $5 - $7 per tip - let me know if you get them cheaper .....hope that helps.....Lee
