Default Carbide tips and a lathe with power!!

The pics below show a very enjoyable time cutting on the Lathe. I am making a new stub axle hub for a machine so needed to turn down about 60mm of this 65mm bar to 45mm. I used 450 rpm, .6mm/rev feed and 2.5mm cut in the pics, taking 5mm off the dia. It's great when it chips like this. For the short larger dia on the shaft I went for a 4.5mm cut, showing some more bravery. The clutch slipped on the lathe while drilling a 35mm hole the other day so I thought I should take it easy on the longer cuts. I don't seem to get to do those sort of cuts very often anymore, so when I do they are more enjoyable.

Sorry I had trouble uploading pics and now I am being called!!

Its a knux type insert. I had touched this tip up on the soft wheel so it had a slightly larger radius. I can't remember the grade. I only use these as that is what we used where I did my apprenticeship. I was able to salvage the holders out the scrap bin and repair and replace the parts to get it functional and then they gave me some holders and tips when I bought this Lathe from them. I used to save the used tips from work off the CNC lathes and regrind them on the soft wheel. In just over 20 years I have almost run out of tips!!
