Set the square stock as best you can by eye first, then bring your dial in to just touch the centre of one of the squares flats.

This flat should be as square as possible (vertical) move your compound in a few thou or hundredths, zero the dial, manually pull the outer end of indicator clear of the stock, wind carriage away, rotate job 180 return dial to job check reading adjust.

Continue this for the opposing faces untill you have a reading you are happy with, shouldnt take to long to do .

    Default 4 jaw

Hi: if the material is HRMS, and initial accuracy is not critical, I use my tool bit instead of dial gauge. I have a strip of paper between the square stock and the bit. The bit should just drag the paper but not cut it. Do all four sides. Wayne.
