Cheers andrew- they must be aluminium then, seem way too light for steel.

I was thinking there's no way in hell i can weld in a plastic clamp, haha.

No worries. Prompted me to go buy another pair - sadly I could only get one, one more to find. I did find a 25c new-old stock mitre blade that should fit my spare hacksaw frame though so worth the trip

    Default 100mm swivel vice

Just a heads-up: while pulling my new vice apart to get rid of the big lumps on the base (hardly worth the effort for a $25 vice, hey??), I noticed that the 'lubricant' on the vice screw is made of equal parts of grease, dirt and sand!

It's probably worth the effort of wiping most of this muck out, and replacing it with something remotely lubricating and protective.

    Cheers,
    Andrew

What is wrong with dirt & sand... just as long as it is clean dirt & sand.

Was in at the Cannington store today. No quick release G clamps left. Bought myself one of those ally corner clamps, a scissors jack and another hammer, then over to H&F for bandsaw blades and water soluble oil and then to bunnings for some nuts and bolts.
