Chin Hung Lathe?
Attention .RC. a known fellow Chin Hung lathe owner. OK, at ease.
I just spotted this LA Engineering Metal lathe on Ebay
METAL LATHE - LA Engineering Lathe plus Tooling | eBay
Sure looks like our Chin Hung's eh.
I know the Chin's were badged Kingston in the U.S. but hadn't seen the LA's before. I'll have to do a bit of Googling.
In that condition and the extra's I think it's a pretty reasonable price, I'm not interested though, mine will do me.
I see the badge 600 machinery on it, anything they sold/sell is good stuff.
Question too if you don't mind, did your's come with the saddle forward-reverse spindle control lever so it starts forward when in the down position, mine does; I'm going to change mine when I get around to fitting the soft starter.
CheersIf I'm not right, then I'm wrong, I'll just go bend some more bananas.

LA's are cheaper copies (well they are cheaper).... The key difference is the taper at the top of the cast iron base on the operator side...
On the Chin Hung it is a long taper, on the LA is just rounded off... A chap in Canada looked at both the Kingston (Chin Hung) and the LA's and in his opinion the Chin Hungs were better built..
Of course I am going to say the Chin Hungs are better because I own one. (never ask a lathe owner how good his machine is )
Mine is down for forward, up for reverse same as the AL1000C I had...
I still really really really like mine even after a couple of years of owning it...
The one in the ebay link is the 530mm swing model... They look ###### as all they have done is increase the centre height by stretching the height.... It looks like it would not be very rigid..Light red, the colour of choice for the discerning man.

Thanks .RC.
Yea I noticed the jacking up without the rest of it any beefier.
So seeing as your Chin came with starting forward with lever down I'll now leave mine the same, I'm getting used to it anyway. It was just that a couple of lathes (with the same set up ) that I have used had it the other way around.
The clutch lever on the Macson is down to go anyway, so sort of the same as the Chin.

I just saw that on Gumtree last night, not a bad looking lathe but I don't know if he will get that sort of money for it.

Hi Dave J
Please don't take this as me trying to be ornery with you or anything.
Yes he may find it hard to find a buyer but if I were looking for a new(Oh Yea, Yea!) or fairly new lathe(oh yea!) of that size I would seriously be looking at it. One might get him down a bit if one was to flutter a fist full of crisp new $100 bills in front of him .
He says he has had it for three years so he may not have been the first owner though it looks like he may be going by the looks of it and he says it's in near new condition. Even if it is a bit lesser built than a Chin Hung as per .RC.'s post it would still, never the less, be quite a solid lathe capable of some pretty serious work.
Be interesting to know what a new one is worth at the moment, hummm.. 600 machinery has them on their web site..
It also has quite a bit of tooling etc that appears to be little used.
Cheers.

I agree with you, but to get someone to pay that sort of money for that size lathe with no warranty might be hard. I am with you and if I had the money I would make him an offer.

Well, this thread has been a real disappointment to me
I thought it was going to be some weird hand-powered small (tiny??) lathe which was suspended from the operator's lower jaw in use... maybe a clever adaptation for someone with missing limbs, perhaps...
Cheers,
Andrew
