    It very well could be if the clearances are to close,even running stainless in steel is better than stainless on stainless,maybe in a bronze or brass nut.

    hydrogen embrittlement can be fixed by placeing the item in your gas or electric stove at about 220c for about 30 mins. Dont chrome the inside of the nut. mask it first with wax or put a wooden bung in the hole. Chrome on chrome will not work very well. Talk to your chrome plater about the amount of build up.
    P.S.The stove work will not affect the temper of your components.
