    Default Chronos Engineering (UK)

Three weeks ago I bought a few tools from Chronos Engineering in the UK. Postage was quoted at GBP9.49 which seemed about right based on my other purchases from the UK. I'd been eagerly awaiting the parcel in the mail until yesterday when I got an email from Chronos saying their postage calculator had made an error and the actual postage was GBP29.00. That's an extra $30. They want me to pay the difference or cancel the order and accept a refund.

Now if they had emailed me a day or two later I could accept there had been an error. The fact that I heard nothing from them for 20 days makes me suspicious. I can't help thinking they have jacked up their postage prices and are using the postage calculator 'error' as the cover story. I told them we have a contract and I expect them to honour it. I haven't had a response yet.

Beware of any postage quoted on the Chronos website.

Wow more like $45, stick to it as you are in the right. I got over a 1/2 ton of stuff from H&F and there postage calculator stuffed up and only charged $50, they honored it.

I have never bought off them because of the postage rate, it just kills the deal.
I bought those 1500 grub screws which where heavy, came in 2 packages from the UK for only around $50 post from memory.

Chris I think it's reasonable for you to be suspicious, but they are most likely telling the truth. I went through the same process a while back with an eBay purchase, same story from them. However when I confirmed with the Royal Mail site they were correct.

    Default recent UK postafe

The postage rates in the UK have recently just gone up ... and quite a lot . That might explain the Chronos anomoly ?

I buy a few MINIC slot car bits from the UK and the postage has been higher that usual recently

I have just searched since you posted this, he is a wholesaler in the UK on ebay and it was around $110au money. They where M3 to M8 from memory and came tightly wrapped in cardboard.

It was so long ago it has dropped of my ebay and I never left feed back with all the things going on at the time, I do remember it took several weeks to come.

I think it is this guy, but he hasn't got all the listings he used to have. He just said tell me what you want and I will give you a price. They where really cheap and he had a 3-4-5-6 mm 1000 pack at the time so I bought that and a range of M8 ones for the tool holders.

    Pete,
you may well be right about the Royal Mail rates being higher than they quoted. What really annoys me is they took 20 days to tell me.

I have bought twice from Chronos, both times with excellent service and very prompt delivery, the first time via International courier (delivered within a week) the second time Royal Mail.

Having said that if they did this to me I would respond to the effect "you have accepted my order and my money, therefore this is a binding contract, on top of that the goods should have been delivered by now and you are asking for more money?"

Yes I agree. I can understand that mistakes are made, but to wait 20 days after they took your money to tell you? Thats the big issue to me!

Oh yeah for sure, that's rubbish and I would be saying something to them about that. It means they sat on your order for 20 days before doing squat about it, presumably while waiting for stock to arrive but saying nothing, and that's pretty poor form.

Chronos conned me with a boring head advertised as 2" dia but in actual fact the product supplied was only 1.5" dia. When I complained they told me send it back at my cost and they would refund me less their carriage charges. I kept the tool but won't buy anything from them again.

It pays to stand your ground. After receiving no reply to my email, I was going to call them tonight. No need- a delivery van turned up with the parcel today. It was posted the day after my email and arrived 4 days later. Credit where credit is due I suppose, but I would still love to know why it took 20 days to discover the 'error'.
