Is that the best shot you have of the setup.
Was there any provision for counter weights.
Were there recesses cut in the side of the jig plate for the jaws to sit home in.

Some serious side forces there I would think.

Hi Oldnewengine, The chuck may not be tightened up much anyway as there appears to be a through bolt up the spindle holding the fixture against the chuck face and the face of one jaw. Some positioning adjustment is (it appears) achieved by the adjustment bolt acting on the top jaw, fore and aft adjustment of the job could be by moving the job within the clamp plate and base. So the two jaws taking some, somewhat side thrust, may not be taking much anyway.

    Cheers.
If I'm not right, then I'm wrong, I'll just go bend some more bananas.

I would skip the four jaw and go straight to a faceplate.....
From the filename I guess it's for turning dodecahedrons. Something like this:

Thats kinda neat....if you need one in your home I have a stone one already somewhere.....some particular crystal that forms in dodecahedrons that dad gave me (he is a geologist....and mad about rocks...)

You are quite right about that. I did not read it or look closely LOL. It had the effect I expected. I was looking for info on weld cleaning which can be found if you do a search, or read it. Nothing specific just some musing.
