Here are some of the results of my efforts to resurrect the bucket of rusty tooling that came with the homemade metal lathe. (See antique and vintage machinery)
I had a small container of cooking citric acid and used a shallow plastic tub, hot water and a squirt of detergent and metho.
Left the tooling in for 3 hours to overnight depending on condition and room in the goo.
I did give it a scrub with an old wire brush about halfway thru it’s time in the tub.
Rinsed with the hose, dried and cooked in the oven for 1/2hr at 180 or so.
I then hit them on the wire buff and gave most a coat of lanolin.(couldn’t find the G15)
A lot look terrible but the tips are fine.
About 8 are too big for the Macson so I’ll mill them down to fit.
I might tidy up some of the smaller ones on the worn out side of my 30” double disc for appearance sake.
