Machinerys Handbook
Phil
I have the 15th edition of Machinerys Handbook, purchased it new when I was 15 yrs old thats 56 yrs ago, when there were a lot of flat belt drives around, & shapers.
Use the book all the time.
Just recently, I was at a book sale & purchased the 13th edition for $5
Thought It may be handy in case the first one wears out!
regards
Bruce

Hi Bruce,
They really are a great source of information. I think mine is an eleventh edition, am not sure as I'm not at home at the moment (too busy campervanning). Mine is constantly in use as you could imagine.

Caravan Stuff
Phil, I was only recently thinking of you campervanning. It was a few months back when you mentioned you were purchasing I thought, a Caravan.
I guess that has now happened & you are viewing the stars at night.
Our van has done a few trips & we will get away again in a month or so.
Very hot here at the moment, & although we have had no bush fire threats, we have everything at the ready.
regards
Bruce

Hi Bruce,
we are having a ball. On our way to the next caravan park we stopped somewhere for lunch ( have no idea where ) and managed to stop outside an 'old' book shop. Naturally I disappeared while SWIO got lunch. She knew exactly where I was. Sadly only Home Handyman books in that one. I think I'm going to love this 'vanning' caper. A little less heat maybe.

First Editions
Hi all,
Has anyone got, or even seen, first editions of Machinery's, McPherson's, Lysaght's, Browne and Sharpe, Stanley etc tool catalogues?
It would be fascinating to see how the tools evolved through subsequent editions.....if at all.
Regards

I haven't seen first editions of any of these! The 4th of the machinery handbook has been reprinted( Eds 1 to 4 were identical) see anvilfire Bookshelf - Blacksmithing and Metalworking Book and Video Reviews
I have 1912 Macphersons and A battered 15th edition of Lysaghts Referee. I suspect that first editions are very rare and probably cost more than we could afford if they did come up on Ebay!
