    Default Colposcope Collection

What's sillier than having a colposcope?
Why having a two of course.
Just when I could see some floor in my shed I picked this up on ebay for $20.50.

The pictures are shot with a normal camera held in the camera adaptor.
The distance from the vernier to the Objective is about 300mm.

This one, while possibly not being as good as the other(it doesn't have converging optics so it takes awhile for my eyes to get it together so I'm not seeing two images) seems much better suited to what I was after. It has 8, 12 and 20 power and a optic fiber light. With the Ocular lens at 45 degrees to the Objective lens and mountable at 0 or 180 degrees, its much more user friendly for looking vertically. Also by making a special bolt it can be mounted upside-down like the last picture.

    Hi Stuart,

Very curious, I'm impressed, but I don't know why....

Maybe it's the precision optics... still it's beautiful stuff..

Oh, would you look at that, your verniers need cleaning...

Nifty bit of gear, but I'm wondering what you got rid of to make that space on the floor...

Luckly I was already halfway there picking up wax so didnt have to question myself to deeply about my need of said device

Thats my $2 vernier, I wish I'd bought 10 of them as it works pretty well unlike the $2 plastic ones lol
I didn't get rid of much, just stacked it higher. lol

If you don't question me why I have something similar, i won't ask you why either!
I'd give them a good clean first. They are used mainly for looking up the female private parts. We still have 2 of these at the hospital were I work. Were about $35k new each, so id say you got a bargain.
    Cheers Phil.

So to the layperson it's a "Flange-o-scope"?. It looks like a decent binocular microscope and may have parts in common such as the objectives and eyepieces.

    Hi Graziano,
I had been looking at binocular microscopes but all the ones I've seen the distance from the objective lens to the work is only 75-100mm which a little shorter than I would have liked. I had almost pulled the trigger on one a couple of times but they were in the $200+ range so I was less inclined to take a punt. I'd also have had to make my own arm up.

    Heh heh heh...mission accomplished .

Stu......I could have worded that better, the objectives obviously have different focal lengths to a binocular microscope but the form factors/threads etc. could be to whatever weird standard they use in optics. You might be able to screw in an Ebay objective to end up with a normal binocular microscope.

    Hi Graziano,
Oh yes certainly the Ziess one it looks very much standard with just a few additions(such as the green filter).
In fact while writing this I had another look and the Objective unscrews. Its marked F300 so it might be as simple changing that to get a binocular microscope to 300mm focal length. Though I doubt I'd buy the lens for $20.5. The rack and pinion focusing would be handy though.
