    Default COmpressor question

The mens shed is looking at compressors and has the opportunity to purchase a 45 CFM FAD unit for a very good price.
My question is what is the likely power 3PH power plug requirements, 20A or 32A?

CFM alone won't tell you power requirements but at a guess it will be either a 10HP motor or a 15HP so it will require at full load either 14 or 21 amp per phase.
That means that you can get away with a 20 amp thin pin powerpoint wired with 4mm 4 core + earth wire, however and considering that it is on it's limit, I would run a 6mm and fit a 32 amp thick pin powerpoint.

Agree. The person who sold me my 120 cfm Hydrovane compressor said it only needed a 20A supply. I think he meant it would run on one as the internal contactors etc were all 32A designation. I ran a 32A supply using 6mm cable and have never had a problem. The price difference is trivial for the usual shed short runs. PDW

We went over to the mens shed this afternoon and were just in time to catch the sparky who is currently wiring up the shed.
He has swapped the 20A line we allocated to the compressor to a nearby 32A line that was a spare so all is good.
