    Default Indian

Hi Tom I am pretty sure I spotted one of those on EBAY recently . Maybe it is the same machine you are after ?

Looking at the lathe, the carriage looks a little on the light side e.g., not beefy . I think it would be fine within its limitations

PS I have a Indian made T&C grinder ,ADDISON brand, it appears to be well made , but the stand is only sheet metal, not a heavy casting

I worked with a guy who went to India to look at presses for use at Mitsubishi Adelaide.

He said they were as good as anything else he'd looked at, and that most of the machines he looked at over there were excellent.

That was back in the 1980's when India had a restricted/no import policy and had to make everything itself.

Google doesn't bring up any problems for Coronet lathes, so it should be OK.

If you buy it you can send Tony in LathesUK some photos

The carriage looks much the same as a Southbend/Hercus to me so it should be OK.

    G'Day Tom,
The Coronet lathe that was sold on Ebay recently was a bit of a worry as the photos posted were downloaded from LathesUK, if you can't inspect the lathe be careful.
    Regards,
    Martin

    Default pictures of Coronet

Attached are a couple of pics of the Indian Coronet that I purchased and after a good clean up, it seems quite impressive
Overall Am very pleased with it but casting has a few minor imperfections The previous owner was inventive re the use of an old car steering wheel to rotate the spindle slowly. He was an inventor and am hoping to continue that trend with my new machine

    Thanks Tomcoronet4.jpgcoronet 1.jpg

    Looks really good.

    Has it been repainted?

No it hasnt been repainted just really well looked after by its previous owner and the professional photography!!!!!! also enhances it slightly.
A neat little mod installed by previous owner was a homemade narrow roller blind designed to protect the bed. This extended and retracted from the headstock end as the carriage was moved
I broke the blind in transport but the brackets are still intact.

    Tom
I'd be happy with a lathe like that.

It looks to have plenty of features.

What are the two little levers at bottom left of the lathe?

Nice buy. I hope you have a good run out of it.

    Cheers

    Thanks everyone

The levers at the bottom left are part of the gearbox selection options
The steering wheel is a great accessory not just for going for a drive but for the leverage it gives to turn the chuck slowly . It is secured by an expanding mandrel within the spindle bore

    Cheers Tom
