Cross feed nuts .......ideas
This is the setup on the old Premo lathe . Looks to be similar to the Asian mill drill nuts , as least the DM 45 has the same idea . MIKE

Brings back memories, my first lathe was a Premo and - it had a shot cross slide screw & nut!!!
I made new ones but I cut them as square thread. 30 years ago now but IIRC I ground a solid piece of HSS into a small boring bar type threading tool and had at it with gentle cuts.
I didn't bother splitting it to eliminate backlash.
These days I'd be tempted to buy a few nuts from the USA and sleeve the old one, silver solder it on, or something.

wear
Hi PDW yes it has just over .030" of play ... the feed handle has around 1/4 to a 3 rda turn of free travel ! Quite a lot and I am looking at ways of repairing it. I threw out a few of those car type scissor jacks , somebody said they have a LH 1/2 square thread that is suitable . A might try a Acetal nut . MIKE
