CTC Face Mill - Any Users?
I'm contemplating purchasing a face mill from CTC Tools and was wondering if there's anyone out there that has one and if so, what their opinion is of the tool and its performance.
63MM FACEMILL CUTTER NT30 ARBOR 10 X CARBIDE INSERT F39 (eBay item 110621787060 end time 07-Jan-11 01:46:58 AEDST) : Business Industrial
While there is an abundance of face mills on Ebay from makers such as Kennametal, Sandvik, Seco etc, their vintage is uncertain and the availability of appropriate inserts, even less certain, making CTC's Taiwanese offering more appealing.

Anorak Bob,
I have the 80 mm version of this face mill fro CTC, same insert tooling and it works just fine. I have only used it once as I have only had it a short time, but it finished a peice of mild steel with almost as good a finish as I was getting with other face mills on alumium.
Regards Bob

I just got the 63mm one for Christmas, but have not used it yet. Going by the other ones I have bought off him they work fine.
I found it was cheaper to buy them from his online shop and by buying the face mill and the arbour separate you will save another $2 and $2 on postage, not sure why that is as they are all the same items.
Both arbour and face mill with 10 inserts bought separate and posted
$114.04
63MM INDEXABLE FACE MILL & 10 PCS MITSUBISHI CARBIDE INSERTS #D42
22MM NT FACE MILL ARBOR #F37
Or bought as 1 unit with postage
118.70

Thank you for that tip Dave and for the feedback Bob,
I bought the endmill.
The direct purchase cost me $119.29 US rather than the Ebay price of $131.40 US. Over the years I've bought 4 collet chucks and 4 sets of ER collets from CTC. Might have saved a few dollars with the direct purchase option!
I need to have a good look at their on line catalogue. I receive their online newsletter and have noticed that some of their gear is not listed in CTC's Ebay store.

He told me he is getting more new gear for 2011 and opened a new ebay shop for it
eBay My World - anytools2010
Not sure why a new shop is needed as he has a good reputation as CTC on ebay.

Anytools.
Saw that when I was doing my daily search for ISO/SK30 tooling. Now I know who it is. Thanks.

Hi Dave,
My 80mm Face Mill is a BAP400R 80-27-6T and the arbour is a NT40 C27 M16 and the Inserts are the same APTMT1604 H2 VP 15TF (10 off). All this means it is an 80mm diameter six insert face mill with a NT40 Arbour with a 27mm diameter shank with 16 mm drawbar thread . Cost was $172.25 Aust$. As I brought a bunch of other items at the same time the exact freight cost would be hard to work out. I get most of my heavy tooling from CTC sent by insured sea freight and it usually lands here in 3-4 weeks for around 19-21% of the total invoice price.Heine has a lot of items that are not shown on his site, just send him an email and I found he is very good to deal with.

I initially tried to buy my R8 face mills from CTC as well, but he didn't list any with a 7/16"-20 drawbar thread. I sent him an email asking whether he could supply these, which he duly answered saying he would try to get some.
That was about 3 weeks ago, to date he hasn't come back to me, now have 2 face mills and a boring head from CDCO, all with 7/16-20 thread.

the face mills from Taiwan Tools use same model numbers as Marox ...Marox supplies Hare Forbes....I'm guessing that Marox might supply Taiwan Tools as well??
www.taiwantool.com.tw
I got the tool holders from them (Taiwan Tools) for the face mills I got from Marox...Marox dont supply the arbors for some reason.
We need a special page with links for cheap tool suppliers....there's just so many being mentioned thats its getting harder and harder to find the links as they are in so many different threads

Hi Big Shed,
CTC is a lot smaller in size than CDCO and does not carry as big a range of items. I asked him about some NT40 to MT3 adaptors and he replied like he did to you, then a few weeks later Heine sent me an email telling me he had them in stock. I have since brought three of them. I know talking to him that he spends a lot of time visiting the tooling manufacturers ensuring he only buys quality items, not just cheap lines. At the moment he is in Denmark for Christmas so he may be a bit slower getting back to you.
