Default How to cut a section of file?

    Hi all,

I have a small device that holds a section about 40mm long of file to bevel the metal edges of snow skis.

On first use 3 of the 4 faces were worn out and it needs replacing for the 2nd and 3rd sets of skis.

How can I cut a new section? Would a 1mm cut-off wheel do the job?

    TIA.
    Cheers, Ern

I think that would be the way to do it, just don't let it build up too much heat or it will take the hardness out of the file. A bucket of water close by would help to keep it cool and give it a dunk when it starts to get hot.

I use the 1mm cutoff discs to cut files when I need to.
    They do the job well.

Clamp the portion of file you want in a vice, cover the remainder with a towel and give it a good sideways smack with an open hand. The file will break off cleanly at the vice.

I know you believe you understand what you think I wrote, but I'm not sure you realize that what you just read is not what I meant.

if you want to tell the file where to break.....use your grinder to put a grove in both sides...... it should break straight then too.

    cheers
