    Default CVA Lathe

Hello Michael G, I read your thread on your CVA lathe that you restored a few years back. I have just bought an identical lathe in need of some restoration. The first item I need as a main gearbox oil seal. Did you by any chance take a note of the seal part numbers when you were replacing them?, Thanks Michael

The main seal out of the gearbox was a tricky one as for some reason the output shaft on my lathe was 30mm but the lathe was fitted with a seal for a 1.25" shaft. The housing for the seal had an OD of 2.25" (3/8" wide). As the seal was not sealing at all I decided to fit a metric version to match the 30mm shaft. However the metric seal was 58x30x10 so I had to enlarge the seal housing from 57.15mm to 58mm. Not having a lathe at the time (because it was in pieces) I put it on the mill and did a little circular milling to take it out that little bit.

Hello, Thanks for the reply. The seal fitted is made by NTK has the following numbers 1743 SC225 112 37. If I cant source this particular one I may go down the same route as you and fit a metric one.
