Default Dean Smith and Grace lathe

So I was passing through Sydney on Sunday and decided to drop in to the Boeing sale. Wasn't really looking at anything as I blew my budget some time ago. Anyway was standing next to the DSG 13 x 42 lathe when it came up for sale. Bidding was sluggish and it looked like it was going to be knocked down for 900. I said I cant let that go so cheap and put in a couple of bids and we all know what happened. Only got to look at it briefly afterwards. Beautiful lathe with usual chucks/collets/steadies/coolant. Some bed wear apparant but not sure how significant yet. Still being used regularly so hopefully not too bad. Due to the prolonged closure process can't pick up until end of March.
After that also purchased a couple of vises and some magnetic blocks/straight edges. Thank goodness I could not stay around for the toolroom sale today. Only stayed for couple hours and caused enough trouble. Did anybody else go to the sale and how did it end.
So no full report or photos till late March/early April.

Well done Mark....you may have blown the budget but at least you blew it on something really worthwhile.
The is a 13" x 42" on eBay at the moment, no takers at $1500 first time round and it has been relisted at the same price. If I wasn't buysng a surface plate from Phil F I would be seriously tempted.....

Must have been bidding against you on the straight edges!

Can't remember which lathe it was, wasn't in the market for machinery, something decidedly weird with the carriage handwheel on one of them....possibly the Colchester.

Hopefully the site safety officer has moved on by collection time too or has no role in removal, world of grief if he's still around. Seems there's still some well known machinery dealers out there working Sundays even, thought they were an endangered breed in this town at least.

The DSG is a great lathe, I used to have a 17x36 toolroom model.
There is a machinery tool place in Vermont, Vic which used to be a DSG dealer(sorry the name of the place eludes me) and can still get parts for DSG lathes.
