In the mean time I'm wondering whether I should remove the conical top from mine and replace it with a threaded collar a little like Bob's. The top is hardened so it's not going to be easily cut down with what I have in the shed but without the sides putting it in say an ER collar would be far simpler. With something soft(er) I could do what Joe is suggesting - perhaps I could use a dog point grubscrew. The biggest question is whether I can cut an internal M27x0.5 thread to a pseudo Swiss standard...

I reckon you are on the money with Theory No. 2 Michael.

Given that there will be some indeterminable torque on those screws I might keep my fiddling fingers clear. When I did fiddle with the surfacing feed and the stop, the slide would close up against the stop and the feed would become "tight". I reckon now that the tightness was the clutch slipping. The feed is not disengaged. The spindle is stopped and the feed reversed enough by hand to change the position of the P/A selector.

Are you going to remove the rotation limiting stop on your vernier ring ? Seems weird that it was there in the first place.

I have no plans to at the moment. I'm yet to have a good play with the head. I keep being dragged off onto other things so I haven't had the opportunity yet. I have a dream about one day taking 2 or 3 weeks leave and just catching up with myself. It will never happen though as the other half would immediately want to go somewhere (have me drive a campervan up to the Alice for example).

Once again, thank you for the drawings Michael. When you have a spare moment is there any chance of dusting off the Instamatic and snapping a few photos? Please.
