Bugger! Did it again!
Ebay and I sometimes work well together and sometimes don't.
As do a number of us, I keep a watch out for other members if there is something that I know they are looking for. In Bob's case I know he has been chasing a boring head for a while. He was poised the other day on a Mizoguchi https://www.woodworkforums.com/f65/no...-arbor-179860/ but didn't. His preferred head of choice is a (Swiss) Kaiser and while discussing the Mizoguchi I spotted one in the US and sent him the link. His response was nice but at 5" diameter was too big for his mill. Now I have a big old Wohlhaupter for my mill (although I don't often use it) but hanging around on this forum I have developed a taste for nicely made gear so thought if Bob doesn't want it I'll throw a bid on. From the look of it I thought it did facing as well and it is always interesting to see the mechanism for that.

However, between me bidding and the end of the auction a question was asked about the size and it turned out that instead of being 5" in diameter that is the length and the diameter is really 2.5". So - I've just won a boring head however nicely made that is way too small for my mill. I was the only bidder though, so at least it was not a pumped up ridiculous price.
Hmm. I wonder if Bob still needs a boring head...

It's a funny thing Michael. I sent the seller an email last night asking if he would send the Kaiser to Perth. No reply. The head is missing one part. The stop. Difficult to see in the murky photo. Should be an interesting little project making a replacement. If you are happy to let the thing go, I would love to buy it. It is the head Schaublin supplied for the 13.
Bob.

Hi Michael,
Your ebay stories keep me entertained!
Sad thing about this nice gear that you and a few others are accumulating, most of my stuff is Chinese. It's crap but because I don't know any different, it's crap but I'm still happy with it .. Well, I was. Dam you all for educating me on fine Swiss made stuff!
SimonGirl, I don't wanna know about your mild-mannered alter ego or anything like that." I mean, you tell me you're, uh, super-mega-ultra-lightning babe? That's all right with me. I'm good. I'm good.

Don't worry mate I have plenty of chinese gear myself.
For most gear as long as it does the job it doesn't really matter where its made, as its only hobby use for most of us here.
Not knocking the guys that like to collect top of the range gear, just ponting out the the cheaper gear will also do the job in most cases.

It needs a good home - off hand I can't think of a better place to send it.By the time it gets through the postal system chain (with Christmas in the middle) it might be mid January before it gets here. However, at least I know what the A and the P on the side stand for now. My this is an educational place!
There is good Chinese and bad Chinese. I suspect the good would not be much cheaper than anything else on the market, but normally it is not imported here as the profits aren't as big.
Probably for a fair number of us the "fine stuff" is not strictly necessary but one of the reasons I buy the things I do is just so that I know it has a good home. Occasionally I see people who don't care treating good equipment poorly to it's detriment. It's such a waste and by buying the better second hand stuff I see it as one less thing ending up in landfill or the rear quarter panel of a Hyundai.
