Thread: DIY anodising and a question

I have modified the camera mount that I want to anodise.

Anyone like to have a go at this in exchange for some "medicine"? I can probably supply the material.

Out of curiosity, how would the R3 corner rads be machined?

I buy mine from a local place called the Battery Factory. Most of the more industrial battery places should have it, and some Supercheap Auto places still sell it by itself.

Protip: It rides in a plastic bucket in the boot....don't ask how I know what it does to boot carpet....

I'm a tad reluctant to have a go at diy anodising. The sulphuric acid bit worries me, so, can anyone recommend an anodiser in the West Heidelberg/Thomastown area, say within 20km of Heidelberg.

Do you reckon matt black powder coating would be just as durable?

No way Ken. You also need to consider that powder coating is quite a thick coat that adds to dimensions. Whereas anodizing does not really build up on the surface, it more penetrates into the surface - for example, you can anodize threads and they still fit together.
