Just some thoughts
If I was doing this project again, I would use a larger motor than the Falcon windscreen motor . It does the job OK , but it's right on the lower limit of what is ideal. A larger motor with more power would reverse traverse faster .
I've noticed that the worm and gear setup seems to shudder when reversing above a certain speed ... maybe it is designed to work in one direction only .. after all , windscreen wipers don't reverse

Sterob@ Looking and looking but found no specs on the motor, they are able to "lift" a person up on the seat so might be ok, but then again it goes thru the linkage so that is another story.
Morrisman@ I think you can make the wiper go into reverse by swapping the terminals (only on the fastest speed as this connects directly to stator winding), I did try on spit-roast in the past I think. Will try again tomorrow to be sure.
get 6 pole switch then connect as below.
A B
C D
E F
Connect A to F then motor terminal 1
Connect B to E then motor terminal 2
Connect battery -ve to C and +ve to D

Good stuff!!
It seems to work ok, so that is all that matters.
Are you going to fit a PWM speed control to it?

Thanks all.
Sterob@ Yes I am looking to install the mosfet switch and hoping to find a transformer for it. it draws 2.5A without cutting anything, might be a bit more under load I think. I might put a 10amp fuse to it just in case.
I like your switch Morrisman, nice and neat. Its on the to-do lists

Jackaroo
Can you tell me what that motor came out of ?
MOSFET = metal oxide field effect transistor ....???

Hi Morrisman, the motor is off the driver seat of VX commondore. Very small, 43mm in diameter.
ps: the switch like yours, PWM controller is using mosfet too. just realise you can buy one for $15 off ebay. I used to buy the kits from DickSmith or Jaycar.

HI,
They look Good Guys - Well done. I spotted these on Ebay last Night GEARMOTOR 150 WATT 12 VOLT 200-220 RPM REVERSIBLE NEW | eBay . They have more than enough Speed, but they say a Max Load of 44lbs. I have just sent them a Question asking what they mean by the 44lbs ie in/lbs , ft/lbs or something else. I know the Power Feed that Shars Sell are 165rpm and 135 in/lbs I think the Rapid Speed is 220rpm. Do You Guys think that they would Work Ok ?. I am Concerned about the simple Pin arrangement that needs to be used to Key the Drive Shaft to the Motor. All The Best steran50 Stewart

Looks promising Stewart. My only concern is the output shaft. Not sure how tricky it would be to interface with the Mill.
When I did this, I went the 'direct drive' route and used a dog clutch. It is alot quieter and using this method with this motor might be more problematic....I don't know.

I've done a bit more on the power feed.
Bought this speed control on ebay for about $10, the box is $5 and the switch is another $5 or so.

Hi jackaroo,
Almost there, a little neaten up and maybe a cover over the gears to stop swarf and you're done. Or are you planning to add travel stops?
