    Default Douglas Shaper 10.5"

    Mornin' all.

I've been lurking on this site for several years and am pleased to see that it is starting to develop more traffic.

I have a douglas shaper and have searched exhaustively and without success for an operators manual. I do have the 12 page "parts catalogue" but I assume that as this model shaper was provided to TAFE and High Schools that some form of owners manual setting out safety rules and operating procedures existed.

I have been using the shaper after liberal and regular lubrication (oil) of all bearing surfaces including, the ram dovetail, and the gears and acme threads in the drivetrain. I haven't been able to find any lubrication points for the main shaft on which the bull gear runs or the jockey shaft upon which the clutch runs.

Those shafts appear to have bearings but don't appear to have any grease nipples or oil ports by which oil or grease can be applied to the bearings. Are they sealed? Am I missing something?

To put my mind at rest can anyone advise me as to all the lubrication points and whether they are oil or grease is to be applied. Or if it exists point me in the direction of obtaining an owners manual.

With your refference to the Bull Gear, and Pinion,on there extension housings there should be a Screw,it will sit flush with the OD of the housing, remove the Screws and lube the Shaft through there.

If you like remove the Connecting Rod housing cover and Squirt a bit of oil onto the pins inside.

I think you will find that the Bearings on the Clutch Shaft are sealed,I have never removed the cover so cant be sure.

Do you put the occasional squirt on to the Clutch engagement finger?

Pipeclay, I haven't previously oiled the clutch engagement fingers, but will from today.

    Thank you for your help.
