They definitely are (or were) a thing. I've got a photo in one of my books somewhere. Trying to find it now.

Page 386, 387 of Machine Tool Operation (Burghardt, Axelrod, Anderson, 1959) describes drilling on a lathe using one, and has a couple of illustrations. The text describes refers to it as a type of dog though, so Pipeclay was right.

Havent got that book.

This is a round tool with MT on the inside it has a small arm to prevent it spinning you rest the arm on a tool holder with a tool in place
and us tail quill to wind it in to drill I will scan the picture and post it

If you require a sleeve to go over the end of the drill parallel Morse taper sleeves can be purchased or made as well as standard Morse taper sleeves, from what I have seen it would then only require you to weld a suitable piece of material to the OD to act as a stop.

As for purchasing a finished item I haven't seen one but haven't looked to hard either.

The cost of sleeves are very reasonable.

I assume the only reason to do this is if the drills taper or shank doesn't match the tails stock ie is larger. Looks a bit dangerous to me, same as the Americans' idea of holding a piece of stock by hand and drilling against those morse taper Vee blocks in the tailstock.

If this is what you need, wouldn't a mt-enlarging sleeve be the way to go? I have a mt2 to mt3 sleeve for example. Can be bought easily over here. Sort of reverse reduction sleeve.

I thought it would be the other way around ie putting a Morse 3 tool in a smaller Morse 2 lathe

Well there you go. I have never seen one of those.

I don't think I'll be able to use my morse 3 drills in the myford even with one of those though. lol.

Yep, true name is "extension socket" used to either adapt larger Morse tool to smaller Morse machine OR to extend the length of a Morse taper drill for better reach on some workpieces..... but we all knew that!
