I can see where tool memory (or whatever its called) could be useful for repetitive work, but otherwise i have no idea.....

Count me in as well especially as I asked a similar sort of question recently in one of my threads and did not get a response.

X 3 but I am in the process of fitting one to my mill and will put one on my lathe too. I decided to buy all of my tooling before I went down this path and because I have run out of sexy tools to buy, started on the DRO's.

not really knowing how to go about it, I bought a (partial) kit made my mill. It had some missing bits and incorrectly made bits but last night I got the Z axis working which I think will be the hardest one. It got from Hong Kong to Australia in 48 hours so I was happy with that. I think it will be good to have to get precise readings without backlash and solve the problems I sometimes get when I forget how many turns I have made but for now it does not add too much value.

i still have to drill and tap holes and did my First one and found it very easy to do into the cast iron which was soft.

my lathe will be a piece of cake after this!
