Easson ES8 DRO playing up
The Z axis readout on my 8 year old Easson ES8 lathe DRO has started to display only intermittently. By swapping the Z and X cables around I've established that the problem is within the DRO rather than the scales.
Does anyone know of somebody who dabbles with the internals of these things? My hope is that if its something simple and obvious like a blown cap I could get away with a $50 repair. Meantime I'm pricing a replacement, going back to dial counting seems very cumbersome and inaccurate after having a DRO.

If the reader is stuffed, have you considered going to android DRO?

Best price I can find for a 2 axis reader that will work with the Easson glass scales is around $300 posted. Easson distributors seem to be only interested in selling the whole DRO kit, ie reader and scales, the reader only comes at spare parts type prices.
One of several 2 axis readers on ebay

The bluetooth DRO DIY head/reader project is dirt cheap, thanks for the idea Richard.
