Default eBay shipping to your local Woolworths Branch

Many of you will have noticed a new option for having your eBay purchases delivered. Instead of your home or the local Post Office being the delivery venue, you can opt for it to be delivered to a participating Woolies branch. As there was (and now still is) some doubt as to whether the delivery would take place before we left home for some winter warmth further north, I opted for a Woolies delivery, in the belief that it may be quicker, and it may also be easier for a re- direction if we had left home before it was delivered.
I got the first tracking result with my parcel arriving at Homebush West on Friday last, after being picked up at Lidcombe the day before. Until this morning that tracking info remain unchanged, which is situation normal for the scandalously named tracking system (unfortunately). Today it gets to South Burnie just after 6am and by 07.19 it has been redirected it would subsequently appear to Hobart, about 4 hours drive away. It seems that it will go to the State Head Office for Woolworths, and will maybe come back tomorrow, sometime in the afternoon, in Woolies internal mail system. If it misses tomorrow, next Tuesday is the next delivery of internal mail for Burnie Woolies.
The thing that really pees me off, is that it was within 1Km of the woolies store when it got to the South Burnie mail centre, and about 15 to 20 minutes for me to pick it up myself.
The only phone contact for the mail centre is a 1300 number, and by the look of it I was speaking to a nice Indian lady in Queensland, who thought that it was being picked up by courier (or Woolies) from the mail centre for delivery to the store. Woolies said that stuff came at any time of day, and as soon as it arrived it would be scanned and an automatic email would be sent to me giving a pin code for my retrieval of the parcel. I got to the store by about 16.45 and spoke to the store manager about my frustrating day. She explained what most likely had occurred was that the parcel if too large will go to Hobart, and then come back in the infernal mail system Woolies has. The parcel contains a headlight assy, for a Nissan Patrol, so not sure what the carton size will be but shipping was free, so my guess is that the box size won't be too excessive, but certainly bigger than a letter.
The following is the tracking info per Auspost, in reverse order.

Shipping information received by Australia Post

    What Have I Learned.

Well, all freight goes with Auspost (with my particular seller, anyway) even if delivery is to a Woolies Store. Woolworths do not use their own logistics for any parcel shipping. Shipping to your home address or your own local Post Office would be a better option unless you are unable to access the P.O. in business hours. Woolies do have extended trading hours in many or perhaps most parts of the country, which could be useful to some people.
I am most unlikely to ever use the Woolies option again. I would also caution others against using this service because it has been extremely difficult to get to anyone who had the slightest clue what was going on, there are too many organisations or disorganisations more like it with fingers in the pie, and too much duck shoving going on.
Finally if you see a one eyed Patrol ute with a Tvan in tow between Burnie and Bathurst in the next week and a bit be nice, I have tried to get it fixed!!

Talk about a well travelled headlight, even before it's fitted to the Missin. I ordered a part for my mini mill from the USA, it arrived in Australia, then went to India, then back here, eventually delivered about a week after visiting India. Little wonder Aust. post is losing money. Thanks for the warning.

I saw that Woolies pick up option when I recently bought items from an ebay shop in Vic.

Out of curiosity I checked it out, but it turns out that (for my items at least) the Woolies option does not extend to anywhere in sunny Queensland.

I normally get things delivered to work as at least someone is there to take delivery even if I'm not. The arrangement works well, so I'm just waiting for an admin person to decide that employees can't have things delivered to work as it wastes resources (did happen at one place I worked).

I know a lot of guys at work that get online purchases delivered to their work. It's so that their SWWMBO doen't find out!

It's all about staying under the wife radar!

You know that's not possible. There's a matrimonial gene allocated to wives which gives them a sixth sense which enables them to sniff out new machinery acquisitions. They may not tell you that they know but, trust me, they know.

    Default Stop press

We have an update from yesterday. It doesn't exactly fill me with confidence, more likely confirms my suspicions regarding Auspost. Here is the guts of today's update, and for those not familiar with Tasmania's geography, Mornington is an Eastern suburb of Hobart, and about 8 hours of driving for the round trip from here.

I have enjoyed the comments regarding the fair sex, in the form of both wives and daughters, If I may suggest a little bribe for kids, like an icecream for keeping mum (in the dark) regarding new purchases. And that reminds me of a story I heard where the parents convinced their kids that Mr Whippy only played Greensleeves when he had run out of ice cream. It worked for years so the story went, All I can say is tat they can't have lived too close to the road, or any other customers of Mr Whippy.

Now days if you tried to bribe the kids with an ice cream, they'd call you a cheapskate. Usually it's an Xbox game or similar!!!!!

Default More News, None of it Good

At 1 minute past 10 am today, I got an e-mail to say my parcel had been delivered. The only problem being that it was delivered to Battery Point in Hobart, which seems to be the mailing address for Woolworths in Sandy Bay, an ajoining suburb. From what the Woolies branch manager of the store from where I am supposed to pick up my headlight, told me last night, the package will now come back to Burnie via Woolies infernal mail system. There was a delivery scheduled for today, but my package didn't make it, and the next scheduled delivery to Burnie is on Tuesday, the day we leave for the mainland states. I did speak to a lady in charge of these parcel deliveries in the Burnie Woolies store, and she told me that they would do their best to "make it happen". I remain unconvinced but time will tell I suppose. It's not the end of the world as we know it, many others have much greater impositions thrust upon them, but this level of incompetence, and the ways that the perpetrators insulate themselves from those suffering from the lack of planning, foresight and commitment these incompetent individuals cause us, is enough to give you the willies.
On a brighter note, my name wasn't listed in the obituaries of todays paper, so lets see what tomorrow brings

    Hi Rob, Guys,

When my children were small and we went out in the car at the weekend, I used to promise to buy them sweets at the next shop we passed... Of course the shops didn't open on Sundays at that time. Since then my two have grown up and are starting families of their own. Its become a standing joke that "Dad" never bought us the sweets he promised.
    Best Regards:
    BaronJ.

    Hi,

I've had a few items delivered to work that I didn't want the missus to see. She usually finds out.

I've also been ratted out by the kids, even after bribing them.

    Ben.
