Default Had a small EDM job done

I had a small part cut by EDM recently and I'm really impressed by how well it turned out, the fit and accuracy of the work are spot on. I need a Hudson clutch centre (the one on the right) which will fit onto a Toyota gearbox input spline - 28mm x 21 involute spline.

I ummed and ahhed about doing it myself, I could have probably got there after 2 or 3 days trial and error, my big worry was getting the right shape for the involute cutter. In the end I chickened out and had it done by a die shop I know, they turned up the blank and cut the spline, cost me $100 as a cashie. Money well spent I reckon.

Nice job, probably would have cost more in electricity and materials if you'd done it yourself.

Its made out of 4140, and they tell me that it is OK to use as is, no hardening required.

Thinking back it is almost 40 years (I've only owned a lathe for 7 years) since I found these guys in the yellow pages and turned up on their doorstep for the first time. We were both young men then!
