I'll pass this along and see what he says. He is away for a few days so I hope you are not in any hurry.

There are a few drive rings in the tooling cabinet, looks like a complete set of the 20mm shank collets in there as well (which don't interest me ) so should be good on those. The part set of SK40 collets I'm claiming so will ask him if he has another set, likewise a drill chuck and boring head.

The native Deckel drawbar thread is a buttress thread. I think the exact terminology is S20, the "20" being the diameter. Your choice is to change the drawbar thread or use an adapter as per PDW. I've tried to make it easy on myself. I have elected to keep the S20 drawbar and use adapter bolts. Ideally I am only going to use Deckel tooling or CAT 40 tooling. That means I only need one style of adapter bolt to go from the CAT 40 5/8" 11TPI to S20. The adapter bolts are not cheap, about $100 per 5.

    Thanks BB,

I await the reply with interest. No particular hurry.

Staying with the Deckel drawbars is best for me, because it fits the tooling I do have, including the horizontal arbor, and some collets.
Re the adapter bolts, the M16 to S20 version that fits BT40 tooling is a bit cheaper here knob M16 to S20 x 2 compatible with ISO40-RCDGS16/20

    Cheers,

Below is a shot of an LK grinder with what I think is this component, between the grinding head and the "Y" axis ways (um.. that'd be the slightly pudgy looking green bit... in the middle Probably you have seen one of these around and elected to keep your folding stuff in your possession!

Well, as I said, my machine isn't a Deckel, it's Romanian. So I don't expect there to be any spares at any price, which makes life easier. I am toying with the idea of making a riser block similar to that but until I pull the machine down a bit to get some measurements on gear sizes/pitch etc, I can't make the pattern let alone machine it. Right now I have a simpler solution and am too busy to entertain that either. I don't need to badly enough as I have 3 other mills. Mind you I nearly maxed out the B/port Z travel the other day so maybe I should make a riser block for it too.....

WRT standardising on 5/8-11 40 taper tooling, hold that thought. It'll last just as long as it takes for you to find a screaming great deal on M16 thread 40 taper tooling and then you'll be right where I am now..... with a pile of adaptors.

As a matter of (limited) interest, a member on Practical Machinist sent me a scan of the manual for my mill. Unfortunately in German but hey, the drawings etc are readable by me. Standard was horizontal arbors in 16, 22, 27 & 32mm. No 1" so at least I know it didn't go missing anywhere. If I got really stuck I could machine an adaptor sleeve and use the 22mm arbor I suppose, but I definitely want a 1" one if available as life would be a lot simpler thus.
