electric billy/go kart
ok so if the heading hasnt confused you then i guess you are reading this now ok what i am trying to do is to take two electric scooters and turn it into some sort of vehicle i have two electric motors they are around 4 inches wide and 6 inches across and 4 batteries which all together are a bit bigger than a loaf of bread and i want to build a four wheeled vehicle the wheels all have bicycle style axles so i have to have them bolted from both sides these wheels are about 30cms or about a foot wide for us older folk i guess it doesnt sound that hard but for someone who has worked in wood mostly and badly then it is looking a bit daunting any help with plans or what ever would be much appreciated eventually it will be for my 12 y/o son hes like a bean pole so he should fit in just about anything

Electric car ?
Hi perthnovice,
If by chance an electric car is what you refer to. I have some information. I am doing similiar for my no 2 grandson. It started out for no 1 grandson but 7 years has elapsed and the kid is nearly in high school.
Running gear other than the motor is what you seek if I read correctly.
Wheels -plastic rim -rubber tyre pneumatic wheel barrow wheels,I got them from super cheap years ago.
Steering- Kingpin type using 20mm nuts and allthread
and some round bar and 25 x 6 flat.
Drive is by bicycle chain and sprocket from motor.
No plans though all just chook scratchings on the bench top. Google up Real Life toys for inspiration.
Cheers
Grahame

Oatley Electronics has alot of good hardware for this sort of thing. They have a cheap 24v motor ( with gearbox and bike chain sprocket), speed controls and motorcycle throttle(if that is how you want to control the speed.
Sounds like a fun project. Good luck with it.
I wish my dad had made ME one.....lol

hey guys thanks for the replies seems i may have not made myself clear and dont worry it isnt the first time my fingers type what my brain didnt say anyway what i was after was a plan for a chassis one where all four wheels need to have fixing either side just the way a bicycle has once i have that basic shape i can adapt it to the right length and width i havent really thought about brakes yet and i still have the motorbike grip accelerator from the old scooters so should be able to adapt that to fit
but i will look up real life toys and see how i go for plans
cheer's guys

Sounds like you are considering using one motor to drive one wheel, and same on the other side. Your drive wheels are then independently powered? That might work, if you can make sure equal drive is being applied to each side, otherwise you'll be steering with the drive wheels! Are you driving the bike wheels via their standard sprockets, as in each one seperately? Could be a ratchet problem, one will work & one won't, because of direction. Overall it might be better to just drive both wheels with one motor, by fixing an axle between the two. Mind you that's easier said than done... I've tried and the axle kept snapping off the weld, because of the hardened metal used in bike hubs and sprockets.
Here are a few links that may be helpful with configurations, but not actually electrically driven:
