Pffft, nonsense not to be believed. I see no reference to the smoke fairy in any of it!

Here is the next installment, thanks again to GQ

And the long awaited AC Drives...

If you want to go deeper and understand more about motor winding and control of different motor types, I can recommend... and, I'd be interested to hear of others to add to the list.
"Electric Motor Repair" by Robert Rosenberg
"Practical Electric Motor Handbook" by Irving Gottlieb
And for the real basic stuff there's none better than "Electricity and Magentism" by Bleaney and Bleaney (just be sure to brush up on your vector calculus first )
Regards
Ray
Edit Bleaney and Bleaney can be downloaded from http://archive.org/details/ElectricityMagnetism2ndEd (it's a 35 MB PDF) and pretty heavy on the maths, if you haven't done vector calculus it might not mean much..Last edited by RayG; 6th April 2012 at 09:18 PM. Ray and Greg,
Thanks for this info.
I have some reading to do as I have not looked at much electrical motor and control theory since high school physics.
The struggle will be worth it.

good
I've read through AC 1 ..it's easy to understand , in plain language .
They don't mention why the stator and rotor are made from thin laminations . Is it eddy currents ? Eddy Currents induced into a large single lump would degrade the performance ?
