    Default ER32 Collet Set

    Hi all,

Interested in buying an ER32 collet set from a Hong Kong based seller on Ebay.

There are two different sets availavble. One offers 10 collets in the following sizes:

    2-1mm (1/16"), 4-3mm (1/8"),6-5mm (7/32"),8-7mm (5/16"),10-9mm (3/8"),12-11mm (7/16"),14-13mm (17/32"),16-15mm (5/8"),18-17mm (11/16"), 20-19mm (3/4")

The other is a complete set comprising 18 pieces and has continuous gripping range from 1 to 20 mm with no gaps.

At half the price I am considering the basic 10 piece kit. Considering I can't see myself using anything larger than a 20mm endmill, will I find the basic ER32 kit limiting?

    Cheers,

    Simon

i have the basic 10 piece kit and fit it great for milling although when i tried to use it for drilling i encountered the size problem.
BETTER TO HAVE TOOLS YOU DON'T NEED THAN TO NEED TOOLS YOU DON'T HAVE

Go to a place here that sells them and check one out. Then buy the Hong Kong one if it is suitable. I'm sure these guys will give you 10 business names in 5 seconds flat.

For the relatively small extra cost I would go for the full set. Once you have this set you will find all sorts of uses for them, I use them on the mill, the rotary table and the lathe.

If you later find you want the sizes in between it is going to cost you a fair bit more to buy individual ones to fill the gaps.

    Just my 2c.

Hi i just received my 10 piece set 2 days ago. I wish i had of brought the er 40 collet's and chuck . The end mills i had in mind for a job im working on, don't fit the 20mm collet. I think there 24 or 25mm. Besides these bigger say 6 end mills . The rest of my collection seemed to fit one of the collet's ok.. Really i think there pretty cheap and if I had to order ER32 again id go the hole set. Mine were from ctc. they look great i think straight up the 4mm,6mm', 14mm, 16 and 20mm collects wont go to waist.

Damn it I knew you guys would say that!

You are right I should just lash out and buy the entire kit. I have bought stuff from CTC before and I think their products are pretty good for the price.

    Thanks for your guidance!

Another vote for a full set if you can afford it. With a full set you don't have to worry what end mill size you buy.

Another vote for the full set. If those size ranges are right you cant use 1/4" and 1/2" shank cutters. You're sure to end up with some of those sooner or later.

My set should be arriving soon

I have the full set of ER32's and the full set of ER40's. And I will add to the vote of if you can afford it get the full set/sets.
I am glad I have the full range as I don't think there is a collet I have not used..

A full set of ER32 and ER40? My god you are decked out! I think that would be a luxury that I could not justify. Not enough money in my man stash for both!

I origionally bought the ER32 set from CTC tools.
Then somehow I (accidentally) aquired another milling machine 4 times the size and found I had the
power to spin much larger tooling..
So as you can guess an ER40 set was the order of the day...
    Thats my exuse anyways....Matt

Thats what you get for being a tool aholic, , If they had clinics for us we wouldn't have this problem.
Anyway, isn't it the man that dies with the most tools wins.
